Meet Your Guide – Jono Griffin
Jonathan Griffin (Jono) has over 20 years’ experience in the outdoor and education sectors. He is a Level 2 Surf and SUP Coach and an Instructor Developer with Irish Surfing, mentoring and training new coaches to the highest standards. A believer and pioneer of a people-centred coaching model, Jono is driven by a passion to explore the outdoors—whatever the weather.
Qualifications:
Jono is a graduate of Sports, Exercise and Leisure and originally trained as a PE teacher. After several years working as a Youth Worker, he developed an innovative project that used surfing to support and enhance the wellbeing of young people. Over the past 17 years, Jono has organised eight fundraising treks to the Himalayas, leading more than 100 people to Everest Base Camp and raising over €150,000 for various charities.
He is a Level 2 accredited Surf and SUP Coach, a fully qualified lifeguard, and an Instructor Developer with Irish Surfing, where he delivers the national Surf Coach Curriculum. A firm believer and pioneer of a people-centred coaching model, Jono places individual growth and meaningful connection at the heart of his approach.
In 2021, he returned home to Donegal and founded Wild and Free Adventure Company, specialising in off-the-beaten-track adventures along the stunning Sliabh Liag Peninsula in South Donegal. While the ocean is his first love, the mountains are a close second. A natural team leader, Jono continues to visit Nepal regularly and treasures working alongside local trekking guides who are now lifelong friends.

We're a fully mobile adventure outfit, choosing the best coastal or inland spot daily based on conditions to deliver a safe, unforgettable experience—tailored to your skill and the weather.
Transport
We offer a pick-up and drop-off service in our Land Rover Defender, with space for up to four passengers plus the driver—perfect for getting you to and from your adventure in style.
